Pushing Back on Privilege in Volunteerism
This is the recording of a one hour webinar presented by Sue Carter Kahl for the Get Involved initiative on May 12, 2022.
At its best, volunteerism is a transformational experience that cultivates community and promotes understanding. At its worst, service reinforces unhealthy patterns of power and privilege. How do we facilitate service that consistently reaches its potential? This session supports volunteer leaders in designing service that is mission-driven and community-centered. It introduces the ways that poor volunteer role design can diminish dignity and organizational effectiveness.
